Wind turbines

Today many communities seek ways to lessen their environmental impact. Wind turbines, electric solar panels, urban roof top gardens, high efficiency heating and cooling systems, energy smart appliances, and motion sensor lighting systems to name a few.

I would prefer to see more conservation and less consuming.

For those communities that are in an economic situation that allows wind turbines, do they feel obligated to do so because they can afford it? Are they built to fulfill the communities desire to be role models? Are they built as a indication of economic status. Or are they built because it's the nobel thing to do.

I like wind turbines, it would be great if ever community had them. But, could the money be better invested into the community wide conservation efforts.
